A Diploma Can Be the Beginning of a Bigger Journey
For a student who has struggled to stay in school, graduation can feel like the only goal that matters.
Finish the classes. Earn the credits. Get the diploma.
But as graduation gets closer, a new question can begin to take shape: What could come next?
For students interested in healthcare, earning a high school diploma can be the foundation for career training, certifications, college programs, and many different types of work within the healthcare field.
Healthcare Is More Than One Career
Doctors and nurses are important parts of healthcare, but they are far from the only careers available.
Healthcare organizations also rely on people who work in medical billing and coding, medical assisting, health administration, patient services, pharmacy support, dental fields, information management, emergency services, and many other areas.
Each career has its own education, training, and certification requirements. That is why exploring possibilities early can help students understand which path may fit their interests and strengths.
Start With the Educational Foundation
Diploma & Careers Institute (DCI) partners with Avondale School District to provide eligible Michigan students ages 15–21 with a tuition-free, accredited, 100% online public high school option.
Students who complete graduation requirements earn a high school diploma through Avondale School District.
For students whose traditional school experience has been interrupted by work, family responsibilities, health concerns, transportation challenges, parenting, or other circumstances, DCI provides a more flexible way to complete that foundation.
Support While You Work Toward Graduation
Students do not have to complete that journey alone.
DCI students work with certified teachers, academic coaches, personal mentors, student advocates, and other support staff. Mentors help students stay connected, monitor progress, and identify when tutoring or additional academic help may be useful.
For a student who has already experienced setbacks, having people who continue to believe in their potential can make a meaningful difference.
Exploring Healthcare Training After Graduation
After earning a diploma, students interested in healthcare can begin researching the education and training required for specific careers.
DCI’s relationship with Compu-Sher helps connect the conversation about high school completion with career-training possibilities, including areas such as medical billing and coding.
Students should always review the specific admission, certification, and training requirements for any program or career they are considering. The goal is not to rush into one choice, but to understand the options available.
A Scholarship Can Help With the Next Step
DCI graduates are eligible for a $1,000 scholarship that can be applied toward a college, university, trade school, or certification program.
For a student moving from high school into career training, that support can help turn a future plan into a real next step.
Keep Building
You do not need to know your exact healthcare career before you graduate.
Start by earning the diploma that creates more options.
Then explore your interests, learn what different careers require, and choose the training that fits your goals.
One achievement can lead to another.
A high school diploma may close one chapter, but it can also be the beginning of a much larger career journey.
