Your Path to Graduation Can Start From Home
For some students, getting to school every day is one of the biggest barriers to staying in school.
Transportation may be unreliable. A student may move between homes. Work or family responsibilities may make a traditional school schedule difficult. Health concerns or anxiety may make attending a school building challenging.
Those circumstances do not mean a student should lose the opportunity to graduate.
Diploma & Careers Institute (DCI) gives eligible Michigan students ages 15–21 another way to continue their education from wherever they are in the state.
A Tuition-Free, 100% Online Public High School Option
Since 2018, DCI has partnered with Avondale School District to provide a tuition-free, accredited, 100% online public high school program for Michigan students ages 15–21.
Students who complete graduation requirements earn a high school diploma through Avondale School District.
Because coursework is online, students can learn from home or another location with internet access instead of being required to travel to a school building every day.
Technology Should Not Be Another Barrier
Online learning only works when students can reliably connect.
DCI provides students with a laptop and internet connection so they have the technology needed to access classes and stay engaged.
For families who may already be balancing financial pressure, transportation issues, or changing living situations, removing that technology barrier can make online education much more realistic.
Learn Anywhere, but Never Learn Alone
The word “online” can sometimes sound isolating. DCI is designed to be the opposite.
Students have access to certified teachers, academic coaches, personal mentors, student advocates, and other support staff.
Mentors stay connected with students, monitor progress, and help identify when tutoring or additional academic support may be needed.
So while the classroom is virtual, the support is very real.
Built for Students With Real-Life Responsibilities
DCI serves students with many different stories.
Some have fallen behind on credits. Some work. Some are raising children or helping care for family members. Others are dealing with health concerns, transportation challenges, anxiety, bullying, or a traditional classroom environment that has not worked well for them.
The program is designed to give students room to manage those responsibilities while still making progress toward graduation.
Graduation Can Lead to What Comes Next
Earning a high school diploma can open doors to employment, skilled trades, college, career certifications, apprenticeships, and workforce training.
DCI graduates are also eligible for a $1,000 scholarship that can be applied toward a college, university, trade school, or certification program.
The goal is not only to help students complete high school. It is to help them leave high school with more possibilities in front of them.
Your Location Should Not Limit Your Opportunity
Whether you live in a large city, a suburb, or a rural part of Michigan, needing a different educational option should not mean having to relocate or give up on graduation.
With a laptop, internet connection, flexible coursework, and a team of people ready to support you, your path toward a high school diploma can begin right where you are.
